David's recent years of deepening study and relationship with the teachings of Ram Dass and Maharaji inspired this original painting as an expression of gratitude, devotion and love for this extraordinary lineage.

The painting, “Opening the Heart of Ram Dass,” draws upon the classic devotional image of Hanuman opening his heart to reveal Ram and Sita dwelling within. Here, that sacred motif unfolds through lineage: Ram Dass opens his heart to reveal his beloved guru, Maharaji, who in turn opens his heart to reveal Hanuman.

David has donated a print to be sold in this year’s silent auction in December with 100% of the auction proceeds donated.

The image is available as fine art prints, canvases, posters, notebooks, greeting cards, apparel and other devotional pieces. David would contribute 20% of his proceeds from these sales to Hanuman Maui.

For the 2026 holiday season, David envisions highlighting the painting as a Christmas ornament, creating an accessible and seasonally relevant way for the wider satsang to bring this image of Ram Dass, Maharaji and Hanuman into their homes while supporting the sanctuary. For a limited campaign of approximately two months, 50% of David's proceeds from ornament sales would be donated to Hanuman Maui.

Our primary intention is to offer this painting in service, gratitude and devotion to Ram Dass and the continuation of his presence on Maui. Painting is also an important part of how David sustains his creative and spiritual work, so we are grateful for the possibility of creating something reciprocal: a collaboration that supports Hanuman Maui while allowing this devotional image to find its way into the homes and sacred spaces of people who carry Ram Dass, Maharaji and Hanuman in their hearts.

With love, David Person & Clark Nesselrodt
